Zirakpur is a fast-growing town in Mohali district of Punjab at the meeting point of the Chandigarh–Delhi, Shimla and Patiala highways. With many hotels, malls and easy reach of Chandigarh airport, it is a practical base for the Tricity and the first night on the road to the hills.

History of Zirakpur

Zirakpur was a small village on the old road from Delhi to the hills. Its location – right where the highways to Chandigarh, Shimla, Patiala and Ambala meet – turned it into a busy town in the 2000s.

As Chandigarh grew, housing societies, hotels and malls spread along the highway through Zirakpur, Dhakoli, Baltana and Peer Muchalla. The town is in Mohali (SAS Nagar) district of Punjab, though it feels like part of the Chandigarh Tricity.

The Zirakpur flyover on the highway and the nearby international airport have made it a natural stopover for travellers heading to Himachal.
