1Tikkar Tal
Twin lakes – Bada and Chhota Tikkar – in a valley ringed by hills, with boating and an adventure park.
Haryana’s only hill station – twin lakes, an old fort and forest drives an hour from Chandigarh
Morni Hills is a quiet range of the Shivaliks in Panchkula district at about 1,200 m – the only hill station in Haryana. Pine and oak forests, the twin lakes of Tikkar Tal, the small Morni Fort and nature camps make it an easy escape from the Tricity.
Local legend says Morni takes its name from Rani Mor, a queen who ruled these hills. The small Morni Fort above the village is linked to the old hill chiefs of the area; today it houses a small museum on the region’s nature and history.
The hills sit on the edge of the Shivalik range in Panchkula district, the highest area of Haryana. For centuries they were farmed by small villages, with seasonal lakes in the valleys.
Haryana Forest and Tourism departments later developed Tikkar Tal, nature camps at Thapli and trekking trails, making Morni a weekend escape for the Tricity.
